Comrade to South Ferriby
On the evening of Friday June 3 COMRADE's crew prepared her for the trip back to South Ferriby. The mast was lowered and dragged forward to give tiller clearance, the ship was taken through the lock at Beverley Beck and moored out on the River Hull ready for an early start next morning.
Saturday June 4 saw the crew up at 0400 hours and underway before dawn:
Pre-dawn - two ducks take flight over the misty River Hull Sunrise - Steve at the tiller and mist still forming on the river
Ennerdale - without need for lifting - Dave P at the tiller Swans lead the way down river near Ennerdale
Wilmington - first bridge needing to be opened Warehouses - some still remain in the heart of the city
North Bridge - in Hull centre lifting for our passage Drypool Bridge - with the old Clarence Flour Mills to the left
Arctic Corsair - the final stretch leading out onto the Humber Steve oiling the mast in preparation for stepping and rigging
After a rapid 51/2 hour journey to South Ferriby there was ample time to step the mast and re-rig COMRADE before the crew collapsed in a heap from exhaustion:
South Ferriby - mast stepped and rigging in progress Comrade Crew - Keith, Steve, John, Dave E and Dave P
John - oiling the shrouds The two Daves - attaching the mainsail tie
When it's been a long, hard day ... a bit of tree (or mast) hugging ... brings a smile back to your face
Bringing the mainsail aboard Mainsail covered and almost ready for the sailing season
Saturday June 11 - final preparations for sailing next week:
