Folk & Maritime Weekend 2012
On the evening of Thursday 16 August the crews of AMY HOWSON and COMRADE gathered at Ferriby Lock to take the vessels across to Hull Marina to take part in the Folk and Maritime Festival. This was the latest incarnatiion of the Shanty Weekend which, two years earlier, had its funding removed by Hull City Council. The event had been on and off on several occasions until finally, a few weeks before it was due to take place, a new organisation with the backing of Hull City Council asked us to take part in the event. Hastily we made plans to get the ships to Hull and find enough Society members to man them and the sales table.
On Sunday 19 August COMRADE had some very special visitors. Fred Schofield's daughter, grand daughter and great grandson arrived in the late morning to take a tour of the Humber Keel, which once provided a living for their family. Retired skipper Colin Screeton was on hand to to discuss COMRADE and his memories of Fred. He also presented them with CD's of Fred recalling his working days on COMRADE and a DVD showing Fred being interviewed in the captain's cabin.
